Exam (Due Sunday by midnight)

Greetings,

Here's your exam. Please complete it and send it to me via email by Sunday at midnight EDT (don't post your exam on the blog). Let me know if you have any questions. You may use any and all materials as long as you do the work yourself.

Good luck!

Jack

1. Briefly explain the social implications of the Internet. Should we (society) be concerned? Why or why not.

2. What is the best way to get a book published? Outline the process.

3. Compare and contrast newspapers and magazines in terms of how they generate revenue. Which industry is in better shape economically right now? Why? How does their content differ, if at all?

4. Explain how each section of the movie industry makes money (production, distribution, exhibition). In addition, explain the concepts of phi-phenomenon and persistence of vision.

5. What was the social impact of "writing" on humans?

6. Briefly summarize the effects of the "Gutenberg Revolution."

7. Briefly describe the evolution of sound recording (from Edison to today).

8. Briefly summarize the milestones in communication evolution (the communication time-line).

9. Define "time-softening" and "mobile parenting."

10. Compare and contrast a traditional model of communication (like the SMCR model, for example) with an Internet model of mass communication. Be sure to address the differences between the models and include visual representations of each (if you are able).
